The two arrests resulted from an incident on Thursday, Aug. 3 around 7:15 p.m., when two suspects entered the Walgreens in Eastchester at 370 White Plains Rd. and stole around $5,000 worth of over-the-counter medications, according to Eastchester Police.

The duo then drove away from the store in a 2020 Hyundai Elantra that was quickly located by the New York City Police Department with the help of the Westchester Real Time Crime Center. They were then both taken into custody.

A later investigation determined that in addition to the medication stolen from the Walgreens, the duo had been in possession of around $8,000 worth of other medications that were believed to have also been stolen from pharmacies in other places, police said.

The two suspects, identified as Velvet Jefferson and Ernesto Serrano, were both charged with third-degree grand larceny. Additionally, Serrano was also charged with false personation after giving officers a fake name and date of birth, according to authorities.

Once Serrano's real identity was determined, authorities learned that he had an active bench warrant from Kings County for numerous other charges, including attempted murder, assault, and weapons possession.

Both Jefferson and Serrano were later remanded to Westchester County Jail.
